fiberglass hoods : Relly, I've heard nothinb but horror stories and tales of misery from them.Especially if they tried to return something. I think I also heard someonementioning that they sent them a fender from the wrong year fo car andwouldn't take it back. But hell, if you had a good time with tehm thankudos for you.---Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.Checked by AVG anti-virus system ().Version: 6.0.423 / Virus Database: 238 - Release Date: 11/25/02Apparently I just got lucky with them. I spoke to someone today who hadawful problems trying to get the right part. I probably wouldn't haveordered from them had I heard all this ahead of time.they make ram air hoods for 82-92 camaros... i've seen em in a next generationcamaro catalogThey make them for first gen cars too. I just picked up the CamaroPerformers magazine today and on the front cover is just such ananimal. If anybody is interested in it you can probably find asubscription page @ It's a good looking hood.not exactly the one I want but at least this one is able to use theram air.

fiberglass hoods : I just bought a 2 1/4" fiberglass cowl hood for my Camaro and I haven'thad any probs so far....took a bit of work to get the latch workingproperly, but other than that it is fine. Also, a friend of mine has an88 Formula and he just bought the fiberglass replica of the 4th gen ram airhood that's made to fit 3rd gens. Pretty sweet although the nostrilsaren't functional. Did you paint it yourself, or have a pro do it? If the former, howdifficult was it?It's not painted yet, the whole car is in primer until the spring. Afriend of mine is a body man at Freightliner and he has a shop to paintit in when the time comes. Not sure how difficult it will be, but he'sdone this before so hopefully it won't be too bad.The shop that painted my Corvette. Took all the old paint offThen sealed it with a primer made for fiberglass. I think it is called gelcoat. Then regular primer, This primer is light sanded, only to find any flaws inthe gel coatand fix them before putting on the base coat. Then 3 coats of clear. wetsandedin between each coat. last coat is rubbed out, and polished. The Corvette is done in charcoal grey metallic. Most of the time it looksblack. Sometimes in the sun, it looks grey. under the right lights it lookslikea bronze color. Can't describe it to you. You have to see it.Your hood is probably already primed with the gel coat. In factsomewhere in your instructions, you should have a part that sayshow to paint. Most good fiberglass Co. include this. Your friend at Freightliner should know, that if it is not prep.right. it will soon start to show little crosshair cracks. especially aroundthe hood mounts. from the stress of opening and closing the hood. All Freightliners fenders and hoods are made of fiberglass.Didn't mean to ramble on about this. Hope you were serious about your post. But I once had an AAR Cuda. with a fiberglass hood. The guy who had itbefore me had it painted by someone who didn't know fiberglass. I onlyhad it a month, when all these little stress cracks started showing up. The Corvette was done 3 years ago, and still looks like the day theypainted it.So it is. You can pay me now. Or you can pay me later. Your choice.I am just glad that I had the trouble with the Cuda, or I probably wouldhave taken the Vette to a cheap shop to have it painted. And now I wouldbe looking at a Corvette with all kinds of little hairline cracks and clearcoatpealing off. Hope this helps you in making a decision on how to paint your car.

fiberglass hoods : how much was that hood? im checking prices for one to go on my 92 rsWell, I have a harwood fiberglass hood on my second gen and it fits rathernicely. My best advice to you is to do all the prep work before you mountit on the car. That includes trimming, priming, sanding and getting theedges as smooth as possible before attaching it. Also, prime, prime, prime.Getting every corner primed and painted before installation will save you aton of hassle down the road and costs less too. Make sure you change thehood springs too, because if you are going from metal to fiberglass theweight is severley different. The stock springs will probably snap the hoodor crack it, maybe your windshield too. You need to set it on the car withthe old hood off and keep on fitting it until you have the exact shape andgap placement you need. It's a bit of a pain to do all together but worthit. Oh, also, when you take off the old hood, make sure you mark the exactlocation of the hood pins (bolts) so that it will line up nicely when youare done. Hope this helps,Brian wrote in message...

fiberglass hoods : Ive found a pretty good hood site.Whats the pros vs cons of steel and fiberglass. Ive been toldfiberglass hoods are wavey looking. Do they hold up as well assteel. How long does the fiberglass hold up.The only drawback to fiberglass hoods is that they have a tendancy to wrapand you end up using hood pins. Unless you buy a really good one.cons: don't work with hood springs, latches, or sometimes even hinges. high speeds pack air underneath them, and can buckle them.-----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your OwnDoes anyone know of any sites for hoods. I have found some fiberglasshoods but not too many steel. In fact I have only found one. Itis a big Cowl Induction Hood. These cons aren't always true. It depends on the strength of the springsand the quality of the fiberglass. I had a '67 Shelby fiberglass hood on a'68 Mustang and had no problems, since I was able to get the lighter,Shelby hinge and latch springs for the car.

fiberglass hoods : I am about to start manufacturing very lightweight fiberglass hoods for 1985 -1992 Golf & jettas... they will use factory mounting points and be a wee lessthan half the weight of your factory hood... the mould's will be made fromfactory vw body parts... the hoods can also be made in other materials, such ascarbon/kevlar, carbon fiber, etc.. (but at a higher price, due to cost ofmaterials)... the fiberglass parts will be made using a black resin, so forthose of you who want the 'carbon fiber' look without the price it will be veryclose to what you are looking for... right now the estimated cost for the hoodswill be $500... if i get a good response from people, and demand would make itso, the price would drop...ALSO... for those of you who wish that you could have fiberglass parts for yourVW's, any part that i get a good demand for i will consider making... i.e. A3hoods, Corrado hoods, other body parts...AND... if respons is good for these items, i.e. if i make enough from the firstrun of hoods, i will be using the money to set up tooling for Mk 2 fenders andjetta trunklids...
