centerline wheels : You might want to make sure that the problem is in fact weight distributionvs a poorly built skate by renting a good brand skate and seeing if theproblem goes away, before you plunk down big bucks for a high end skate [orworse, give up on inline skating altogether].-----== Posted via Deja News, The Leader in Internet Discussion ==----- Now offering spam-free web-based newsreadingI think that's the wrong approach. If you skate with the proper stroke, you are alwaysin a lean away from the skate. That is, when moving on the right foot, you are leaningleft .. and on the left foot, you are leaning right. If you watch the beginner skaters, you will see that they do neither. They try to skate straight ahead and their skates never curve on the ground during each stroke. A really good drill to teach beginningstroke technique is this: Bend forward in a crouch and put your hands on your knees.Start skating changing directions a lot but never take your skates off the ground. Pushyour knees with your hands at the same time during each stroke. The only way you can dothis is after each stroke out you have to curve your skates back in toward the centerline of your body. You will notice the lean and the skate moving on a curve. The nextstep in the drill is to stand up and do the same thing never taking your skates off theground. Finally do it, but lift your skate on the return stroke to your center-lineabout one inch or LESS making sure that your toes lead your heels on the return stroke. The curve of the stroke is how you balance on skates .. centrifugal force .. and thatrequires you to move your skate so far outside of your body center, that slight problemssuch as your son has don't matter.

centerline wheels : I am planning on a 3" or 4" Tera lift and want to mount BFG 33x12.5tires on 15x8 wheels for right now. I like the Mickey ThompsonChallenger wheels, but they appear to be available only with 4.5" BS.But after reading some of the prior threads here, it sounds like I should stay closer to 4" BS. (?) Would I be OK with above set up?If so, 4.5" backspacing is fine. In fact, I'm running 33X12.5s on 5"backspaced 15" x 8" (Centerline) wheels. Stock backspacing is 5.25". Withthe 5"ers I had to adjust the steering knuckle bolt just a tiny bit to keepthe tires from rubbing the springs, but I was willing to give up just a bitof turning radius to keep the tires/wheels from sticking out like rollerskates. The roller skate look just ain't my style. Besides, there's a 2 or3 inch limit here it TX on how far the tires can legally stick out of thewheel covers, and I didn't want to mess with any aftermarket flares. Thecloser to stock BS the better, but then, you may have to deal with potentialrubbing and adjust the steering bolt accordingly. With 4.5"BS, you may noteven get any rubbing at all.
